Sweating when exercising?

I understand the science of sweating to control body temperature. However if two people of similar age and lifestyles were particapting in the same activity and one person started sweating before the other, does that mean that they are unfitter or able to efficietly cool down their body

Sweating when exercising?
The onset of sweating doesn't indicate anything about a person's fitness because there is too much variability in the way people sweat. A fit person tends to sweat sooner than an unfit person, but sweating rates seem to be more of a genetic trait than an indicator of fitness. So, if you increased your fitness level, you would probably sweat sooner and more than you do now, but a total couch potato can still out-do a person that is physically fit if their bodies are naturally more sweaty.

The efficiency of sweating depends on how well the sweat output matches the heat production of the body. People who sweat too much or too little both have low efficiency. However, sweating too much is healthier than sweating too little because the sweating removes waster products from the body, and the sweatier person is less likely to overheat.
Reply:usually the fatter one sweats more
Reply:yes. could also depend on the clothes they are wearing. =)
Reply:I sweat very easily in my gym class and I sweat even more than those that are not as fit as me. I think it just depends on your bodys reaction.
Reply:the fittest one will take longer to start sweating because his body is more efficient cooling down. Assuming the temperature is stable and the activity is the same.
Reply:yall may have the same life style but all bodies are different. %'s of fat and muscle vary...
Reply:If you take twins that have had everything the same, but one has better physical training, and you put them on the same strain, the twin with better physical condition will activate first his mechanism of cooling down - sweating.
Reply:All things being equal the fitter person will start sweating sooner, the body which is used to exercise becomes more efficient at cooling itself. An overweight person sweating just sitting still is different issue altogether.
Reply:Possibly, but not necessarily. You (in an unfit state) will start sweating before you (in a fit state).

At the same time, there is wide variation among individuals in terms of sweat rate. Some sweat a lot at the drop of a hat (like me) even when in peak condition. Some don't.

A couple more notes: I find I'm able to handle competition in hot weather better than most, provided I have access to sufficient water to replace what I've lost. I believe this is partially due to my high sweat rate.

It works against me in cold weather, because I still sweat. After an hour or so I'm drenched and hypothermic.
